Construction Insurance and its Importance

Construction insurance is a crucial policy for a person who own, run, or manage a construction site. Construction insurance is an important purchase for any builder, contractor, and construction company or construction manager.

It safeguards an employer against construction workers being injured on site. It also covers or protects materials and machinery on the construction site in the event of an accident, fire, or theft. As the construction industry is fickle in nature, insurance can be complete and covers many possible problems.

Generally, the cost of solving these problems is many times the cost of the insurance premium. Therefore, construction insurance became an essential part of a construction budget. Construction insurance does not cover any extra costs raised due to delayed completion of the project what ever may be the reason for delay. Usually, construction insurance policies only spend money if a strict set of health and safety guidelines are followed at construction sites.

Statistics Of Drug Abuse At Work Place

According to National Business Group on Health, Employer’s Guide to Workplace Substance Abuse published in 2009, many interesting facts were revealed.

It is astonishing that 75% of Americans using illicit drugs (14.8 million) are employed. This seems to be ridiculous as they are educated, they need to prevent others from taking drugs. It was found that Employees who use illicit drugs are in between the ages of 18 and 25 and are less educated, male, unmarried, white, and low-paid. I feel they are not matured to understand the negative impact of these drugs. Some industries, which have highest rates of illicit drug use, are food service, construction, Arts, entertainment and recreation, retail and transportation. As these industries have less security and no standards of drug testing, employees are more prone to drugs.

A analysis of the economic impact of substance abuse treatment in Ohio revealed that there is notable improvements in job-related performance like 91 percent decrease in absenteeism, 88 percent decrease in issues with supervisors, 93 percent decrease in errors in work, a 97 percent decrease in on-job damages.

Christmas Vintage Gadget Gifts For Geeks

Christmas is merry, but what’s merry without shopping! You already might have purchased many gifts for your loved and dear ones but may not know what to purchase for your family members or friends who were the geeks of 1980s. Well, let me try to help you with this list of vintage gadgets.

Apple IIc:
You may have a latest Apple Macbook for as much as $999. But the classic Apple IIc from Apple that was launched in 1984 will be something that you may want to buy to surprise your geek pals. And how much do you think this 7.5 pounds vintage MacBook costs? Just around $15 to $40.

Commodore 64
This was most popular PC that was used by many geeks of 1980s. This PC taught the ABCs’ of programming to many of today’s successful programmers. The cost can be around $10 to $40 – but the major constraint will be to find it.

TI-99/4A
I was very disappointed to find this in the list of Top 10 Worst PCs of All time from PC World. This was released by Texas Instruments in 1981 at a price of $525. Today you can expect it buy at $10 to $30.

Atari 800XL
My list would definitely be incomplete without Atari 800XL. This was the third of the Atari-8 bit home computer version released by Atari in 1983.

Cyber Criminals uses IM to commit fraud

Cyber criminals uses Instant Messaging to distribute worms, viruses and Trojans. Hackers likes to use Instant Messaging because of the following reasons.

Network ports of IM client are opened, so no need to open suspicious ports to commit fraud.

IM networks support transfer files and use peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, by taking advantage of this they penetrates malware into files.

A Cyber criminal can easily hide Trojans into files, these Trojans modifies computer’s configuration settings, user IDs and passwords, credit reports, emails, tax and medical records. This can be great risk to client.

A hacker uses Denial of Service (Dos) on the IM client and through this hacker sends a large number of messages to a particular client which causes IM client to crash their system or slow down.

How to Defend Against IM Threats:

  • Don’t choose your real name, email address, or other personally identifiable information as a screen name. Only share your screen name with people you trust, and ask them to keep it private.
  • Use settings to block messages from unknown persons to prevent from “spim“ (IM spam).
  • Don’t display your screen name or email address in public places such as Internet directories.
  • Never provide private information like account numbers or passwords in an IM.
  • Turn off your computer and disconnect the DSL or modem line when you’re not using it.
  • Enable automatic Windows updates to keep your operating system patched against known vulnerabilities.
  • Configure your anti-virus software to automatically scan all email and IM attachments and downloaded files.
  • Be careful when using P2P file sharing with IM. Trojans may sit in these files.

Sharks on the verge of extinction

Many species of open ocean shark are under threat. Over fishing is the main cause says, the authors, IUCN’s shark specialist group.

Two species of Hammered shark are said to be endangered. Sharks are very much vulnerable to fishing. They take many years to get matured and to have young ones.

Immediate action should be taken globally to stop fishing. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recognized the threat 10 years back only. However, the improvement and progress to conserve these animals was not so swift or encouraging. The improvements were very little.

Sharks accidentally get caught in nets meant for other fish. They are also being killed to get their meat, teeth and liver oil which has a lot of demand.

The Hammerhead sharks are special because of their fins. They often fall victim to finning. However finning is banned all over the world.

We must all strive to protect these animals, may be one day we might not see sharks anymore.

Commemorating the Sink of Queen Elizabeth

It was one of the sad days of the history of the ocean where a great ship named after a great Queen sunk at a harbor which was also named after another great Queen.

On January 9th, 1972, the greatest British Ocean liner ever in the history sank near at Queen Victoria harbor of Hong Kong.

I don’t know if it is some coincidence, but the name of the ocean liner was Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Elizabeth was launched along with the start of World War II on 1938 September 27th. It started working as a troop carrier for the World War II, along with the Queen Mary, another ship.

It was on 1946, October 16th that the Queen made her first passenger trip. And from then on it helped millions of passengers to cross Atlantic Ocean safely.

With 1,031 feet length and 233 feet height, the ship was a sailing giant, I must say. The capacity of the ship is 2,283 passengers along with its 1000+ crew.

It retired in 1968 and then was sold to a Shipping tycoon of Hong Kong named CY Tung.

And one day, fire broke on its deck mysteriously and it sank into the ocean.
